The last of the Premier Division’s unbeaten records in the TCS SDFL fell at the weekend as Brixham AFC Reserves and Watts Blake Bearne were both defeated.
Elburton Villa Reserves surged into a four goal lead at Wall Park with Bayley Williams giving them the lead after five minutes. Billy Tedder then got on the end of a long ball to slot home Villa’s second before setting up Williams for his second, a curled shot into the top corner. Scott Allen made it four with a tap in as Brixham’s goalkeeper was stranded.
With 25 minutes to go, the Fishermen mustered a comeback which was so effective it nearly earned them a point. Alex Harding, Chris Mitchell and Mark Griffiths all found the net to leave Villa happy to hear the full-time whistle.
Buckfastleigh Rangers took their opportunity to move back to the top of the division with a mammoth 16-1 victory at Barton Athletic. It was Tom Moody’s turn to rack up the goals this week with five strikes, Ryan Lucassi and Steven Sutton close behind with hat-tricks. Jordan Jones contributed two goals with the remainder scored by Russell Jones, Joshua Norrie and substitute Charlie Morgan.
Newton Abbot ’66 climbed into the top six with a 3-2 home win over third-placed Watts Blake Bearne. The Sixes were trailing 2-0 but turned it around to claim their third win of the season.
East Allington unleashed Si Hannaford and Andy Davis at Ivybridge Town Reserves as the Pirates carved out a 6-3 victory. Hannaford put away a hat-trick with Finley Bullen scoring twice and Aidan Corcoran also on target.
Salcombe Town bounced back from their first loss of the campaign to win 5-0 at home to Meadowbrook Athletic. Ashley Yeoman was another of the division’s hat-trick heroes while Lee Morgan scored twice.
The Windmill posted back to back wins for the first time this season, coming from a goal down at half-time to beat Galmpton United 3-2 away. Carlton Allen doubled up for the visitors with Andrew Crowmac their other goalscorer. Rob Bowker and sub Callum Nightingale found the net for the Greens.
A top against bottom clash at Broadpark saw Division One leaders Kingsteignton Athletic extend their unbeaten start to the season at the expense of Upton Athletic. The Rams played some attractive football against a spirited Upton side that put up a good fight but couldn’t quite match their hosts for quality. Aaron Paget was in lethal form but his first goal, after 11 minutes, was a simple tap in following a low cross from the left. An individual goal four minutes later saw Paget and Kingsteignton double their advantage. Upton could have pulled one back in the 24th minute but the home goalkeeper pulled off a fine reaction save. Kingsteignton then almost extended their lead but an impressive looking headed goal was ruled out for offside. Five minutes later it was three though, Tom Reeves driving home from the edge of the box after good approach play from Louis Dickinson.
The second half started with the home side on the front foot although Charlie Cuss did remind the defence they still had work to do after his header went narrowly over for Upton. Reeves nudged a low Paget cross just past the post and Chris Barnett curled a vicious shot against the post before Paget wrapped up his hat-trick with a glancing header on 67 minutes. Dickinson then made it five, finding the right-hand corner of the net with a low, hard shot. Upton then suffered another blow when Steve Northcott had to leave the field of play with an injury following a crunching tackle. Having used both subs, Upton had to play the remaining minutes with ten men. No surprise then when Paget launched a rocket into the top corner for his fourth of the afternoon, securing a
6-0 victory for Kingsteignton.
Waldon Athletic picked up consecutive away wins at Buckfastleigh Rangers Reserves. Two goals apiece from Nathan Bridger and Oliver Moxham had the Clarets 4-1 up at the break, Glen Palmer with Rangers’ strike. The second half was relatively quiet but Ajay Tehrani added a fifth for Waldon in the final minute.
Damien Francis-Furnivall scored a brace for Ashburton as they won 3-0 at Beesands Rovers. Billy Ashton also found the net for the Ashes who complete the top three.
It’s been an up and down season for Chudleigh Athletic Reserves so far. Last Saturday was one of their better afternoons as Jordan Armstrong, Henry Buckpitt and Jack Morrison scored in a 3-2 home victory over winless Paignton Villa. Graham Mercieca notched his fourth goal for Villa and was joined on the score-sheet by Jordan Hayman.
Harbertonford enjoyed their first win of the campaign away at Kingskerswell and Chelston. David Hatch, Jordan Baggott and Sam Passmore hit the back of the net for Ford with sub Charles Thomas getting one for the hosts.
Division Two leaders Ilsington Villa scored seven times for their seventh win of the season, Dan Langford adding another four to his tally. Jack Langford, Matt Warman and Michael Tapp also scored in a 7-2 triumph at Newton Abbot Spurs Thirds.
Joshua Easterbrook managed two for Babbacombe Corinthians at Paignton Villa Reserves as Corries won 4-2 to close the gap on second-placed Torquay Town who were without a game.
Goals from Peter Robinson and substitute Samuel Healey as Stoke Gabriel and Torbay Police got back to winning ways with a 2-1 win at Dartmouth AFC Reserves. It finished all square between East Allington United Reserves and Ipplepen Athletic Reserves with a goal apiece at Poole Lane.
Imad Belguerrab elebrated a hat-trick for Barton Athletic Reserves but it was Newton Rovers who collected the points with a 9-3 victory at Bakers Park, Nigel Vass also scoring three.
In Division Three, a hat-trick from Ben Drinkwater helped Watts Blake Bearne Reserves to a 5-1 win at Totnes and Dartington Reserves. WBB have now won all seven league games while ending Tots’ unbeaten record.
Alistair Chuchuck collected five goals as Division Four leaders Bovey Tracey Reserves hammered Brixham Town Reserves 13-1. Waldon Athletic Reserves are behind on goal difference following their 4-1 win over Kingsteington Athletic Reserves. The Clarets are yet to drop a point. Third-placed South Brent also have a 100% record but didn’t play as opponents Ipplepen Athletic Thirds have pulled out of the league.
There was one county cup game with Paignton Saints Thirds beating The Heart of Oak 4-2 in the Devon Intermediate Cup. Saints will host Park Rangers in Saturday’s Third Round tie.
