Last Saturday was Devon Premier Cup day for the top tier teams in the TCS South Devon Football League. But it was a day to forget for most of them with all bar one eliminated.
The exception was Brixham AFC Reserves as they narrowly ousted fellow SDFL side Newton Abbot ’66 to take the league’s one guaranteed Third Round spot. Billy Snell scored twice for the Sixes and Cory Brennan and Joe Clark-Farley also scored. But a double from Alex Harding and goals from Dom Aplin and Chris Mitchell saw the sides locked together at four apiece. The match went to penalties with the Fishermen winning 5-4.
Elsewhere, East Allington United crashed out 8-0 at the hands of holders Mount Gould who are looking to win the trophy for the third year in a row. Christopher Wright led the goalscoring with a brace.
Barton Athletic faced a tough trip away to Devon Football League outfit Exwick Villa and lost out 7-1, Samuel Johnson and Nathan May scoring twice each for the hosts.
Elburton Villa Reserves welcomed DFL side Bere Alston United to Haye Road and were beaten 6-2 thanks partly to a double from substitute Daniel Follett. Bayley Williams continued his goal-scoring run for Villa with Billy Howells getting their other goal.
Meadowbrook Athletic went out of the competition by the same scoreline. Ben Bowhay and Daniel Lofts scored for Brook but Mark Tucker was on fire for hosts Lapford, scoring a hat-trick.
Craig Sandle also managed a treble for North Devon Football League leaders Boca Seniors as they dispatched The Windmill FC, 6-0 the final score.
Watts Blake Bearne fared little better against Plymouth Hope, going down 5-1 at Abbrook Park, Billy Clinch with their effort.
Ivybridge Town Reserves can hold their heads up high after a respectable 2-0 loss against DFL side Alphington.
Buckfastleigh Rangers and Salcombe Town could yet keep Brixham company in the Third Round if they win their ties on the weekend. They face Ipplepen Athletic and Hartland Clovelly respectively.
In Division One, a point was enough for Kingsteignton Athletic to go top. Sam Barnes and Jack Smith found the net for the Rams with Ashley Grimes and sub Miguel Antonio Santos Alves earning visiting Kingskerswell and Chelston a share of the spoils.
Chudleigh Athletic Reserves join the leading peloton, inflicting a first defeat of the season on Waldon Athletic. Gavin Hammon and Jack Morrison celebrated goals for Chudleigh with Josh Clarke on target for the Clarets. Buckfastleigh Rangers Reserves also join the fray. They collected three easy points as Abbotskerswell were unable to raise a side.
There were sighs of relief for both Harbertonford and Paignton Villa as both sides got off the mark with a point at the Steve Jane Memorial Ground. The game finished 4-4 with eight players making the score sheet. David Hatch, Sam Johnston, Haydn Sibley and Jack Hopkins scored for Ford. Villa found the net through Danny Powell, Luke Rogers, Samuel Woodcock and Joe Windsor.
Dan Langford is now averaging more than four goals a game, the Ilsington Villa striker scoring six times in his side’s 11-0 home win over Dartmouth AFC Reserves. George Harris tucked away a brace and there were goals from Jack Langford, Michael Tapp and Andrew Westwood as the Division Two leaders made it five wins out of five.
Torquay Town and Babbacombe Corinthians also celebrated emphatic home victories, both teams winning 7-0. Jamie Chamberlain bagged a hat-trick, Kevin Orrell scored twice and there were goals from Simon Bracey and Simon Ross as unbeaten Town swept aside East Allington United Reserves.
Corries complete the top three with their win over Paignton Villa Reserves. Dean Coles and Ben Nickells managed two apiece with Callum Leeds, Curtis Marshall and Samuel Swann completing the septet.
A great performance between the sticks by Taylor Breslan helped Newton Abbot Spurs Thirds extend their unbeaten start. Spurs scored three without reply at Stoke Gabriel and Torbay Police Development with Andy Eden, Ryan Fawden and Daniel Spargo on target.
Barton Athletic Reserves collected their first points in a high-scoring encounter with Watcombe Wanderers Reserves. The Greens will feel hard done by after scoring five times but conceding six.
Teign Village gave Division Three leaders Brixham Town a run for their money but the visitors emerged with their unbeaten record intact. Stuart Pointon added another couple of goals to his Brixham tally, Seve Sanders found the net and Shane Pike came off the bench to contribute a goal. The hosts scored through Michael Turner, Matt Bojar and Thomas Beer who was also sent off after picking up two yellow cards.
Watts Blake Bearne Reserves preserved their perfect start with a 6-1 win at Bishopsteignton United. Matt Elmore put away a hat-trick, Nathan Williams doubled up and Samuel Bannister netted for the Claymen. Jake Emmerton scored Bishops’ consolation.
Christopher Streeter scored twice for Newton Abbot ’66 Reserves as they moved up to third in the table with a 3-0 victory at Paignton Saints Thirds, Alfie Manning with their other goal. Unbeaten Galmpton United Reserves enjoyed a strong second half performance as they ran out 6-2 winners over Liverton United Reserves. Harry Atkinson took centre stage with four goals for the Greens who also found the net through Tom Armstrong and Sam Massey. Vito Percinovic and Charlie Roberts were on target for Liverton.
Kingsbridge and Kellaton United have had a mixed start to the season but the South Hams side showed what they were capable of on a good day with a 6-1 triumph over Chudleigh Athletic Thirds. Guy Watson enjoyed a hat-trick, Dominic Farleigh scored twice and Matt Whitten found the net as did Christian Williams of Chudleigh.
Broadhempston United are still seeking their first point after a fifth straight loss at home to Totnes and Dartington Reserves. Sehena Coulibaly managed a goal for the Robins but Tots had scored seven by the break through Billy Bartlett, Jake Osman (2), Jordan Dowsett, Scott Troth (2) and Sam Ingham. Dowsett added another in a relatively quiet second half as the game ended 8-1.
Bovey Tracey Reserves lead the way in Division Four on goal difference. They bolstered those numbers further on Saturday with a 10-2 drubbing of Babbacombe Corinthians Reserves. Alistair Chuchuck fired home four goals for the Moorlanders, Liam Payne scored twice and Matthew Churchill, James Lockwood, Bradley Rooney and substitute Darren Siwiec each contributed goals.
Ivybridge Town Development have yet to drop a point in their inaugural season. They cruised to a 10-0 win at Ipplepen Athletic Thirds with Craig Brenton tucking away four, Lewis Dickson scoring twice and Kai Burrel, Kai Foster, Lawson Turpin and Jamie Rose adding their names to the score-sheet.
With five straight defeats, Barton Athletic Thirds prop up the league. Guney Uven scored a brace and Antony Smith found the net as Newton Rovers Reserves returned from Steps Cross with the points.
Jules Emati-Emati celebrated a hat-trick at Decoy Park as Kingsteignton Athletic Reserves picked up their first win of the season against Discoveries Devon. Oliver Teague and Ryan Warrington also scored in a 5-2 victory for the Rams.
