Buckfastleigh Rangers remain top of the Torbay Clearance Services South Devon Football League Premier Division despite falling to their first defeat of the season last Saturday. Brixham AFC Reserves arrived at the Duckspond unbeaten and after a hard-fought game, clinched the three points. Sam Green, Alex Harding and Dom Aplin put away goals for the Fishermen with Tom Moody and Joshua Zimmerman scoring for Rangers.
Undefeated Watts Blake Bearne join Brixham in the top three after a 6-2 away win at Galmpton United. Cam Gill was on song with four goals for the Claymen, Billy Clinch scoring the other two. Galmpton found the net through Callum Nightingale and Dave Worthington.
East Allington United scored for the first time in three games but couldn’t prevent a third successive defeat as they lost out 3-2 at home to Elburton Villa Reserves. Things started well for the Pirates, Matt Bodman giving them an early lead, but Jake Beer and Bayley Williams then struck to put Villa ahead at the break. Fred Massey levelled with a great header but the visitors went in front again through Marley Cunningham. Rob Tapper’s header found the back of the net but the home side’s celebrations were halted by the offside flag.
Stephen Vaughan scored twice for Newton Abbot ’66 as they narrowly beat Meadowbrook Athletic at the Dorothy Elmhirst Ground. Joe Clark-Farley and Callum Foskett added their names to the score-sheet for the Sixes with Daniel Block, Jamie Easton and Charlie Ginley on target for Brook in a seven goal thriller.
Rhys Walton scored in consecutive games to give The Windmill FC a half-time lead at Salcombe Town. But the unbeaten Crabs earned themselves another point when Charlie Barnes equalised. He has now scored in all three of Salcombe’s league games.
Barton Athletic and Ivybridge Town Reserves were hunting their first wins of the season at Paignton Community College. Reece Shaw produced a fantastic solo goal to give Barton the lead but it was downhill for the Blues from there. Alex Henniker equalised before Ryan McNaught put the Ivies ahead from the penalty spot. Barton heads dropped and Ivybridge went 3-1 up before half-time, McNaught with a stunning second. Ivybridge then took control of the game with McNaught adding another couple of goals and substitute Sam Stevens also with a brace. The game finished 7-1.
There’s still nothing to choose between the top teams in Division One with the top four taking maximum points from three games. There were eight goals scored at Kingskerswell Playing Fields. Alexander Easson put away a hat-trick for hosts Kingskerswell and Chelston yet still ended up on the losing side. Goals from Danny Rainbow, Sam Winstanley, Ian Simons, Benjamin Hamilton-Hill and substitute Wesley Goddard ensured Paignton Saints Reserves came away with the points.
Kingsteignton Athletic kept up their winning return to the SDFL with a 4-2 home victory over Paignton Villa. Sam Barnes, Matt Hooper, Kelsey Leech and Mark Voisey scored for the Rams with Richard Malone and Graham Mercieca responding for Villa.
Four second half goals at Windmill Hill saw Waldon Athletic maintain their 100% record at the expense of Buckfastleigh Rangers Reserves.. Callum Crews scored twice and Josh Clarke and Jacob Knapman managed one apiece. The Clarets also kept a clean sheet to wrap up a fine afternoon. Also yet to drop a point are Beesands Rovers although this week’s three points were collected as a result of Upton Athletic being unable to fulfil the fixture.
Few would have predicted the final score line at Chuley Road as Ashburton and Harbertonford fought out a goalless half. The Ashes broke the deadlock after the break but Zach McLean levelled for Fords. Ashburton edged ahead again but David Hatch once again equalised for the visitors. The home side finally secured the points with three goals in a 20 minute spell to run out 5-2 winners.
Jack Morrison was in prolific mood at Abbots Park, scoring six times in a 10-0 triumph for Chudleigh Athletic Reserves. Brad Yarnall scored twice and Byron Hawkins and Matthew Williams completed the rout.
A pair of goals apiece for Dan and Jack Langford helped Division Two leaders Ilsington Villa to a comfortable 6-1 win over Newton Rovers. Michael Tapp and Andrew Westwood also found the back of the net as did Malcolm Douglas for Rovers. The visitors finished the game with ten men following the dismissal of Dan Harrity for two yellow cards.
A goal in each half from Justin Grinsill saw Torquay Town end Stoke Gabriel and Police Development’s winning start. Kip Burgin equalised in the first half for a young Stoke side but Town move up to second following their 2-1 victory. East Allington United Reserves sent third placed Babbacombe Corinthians to their second loss in a row with a 2-1 triumph at Windmill Hill. Chris Jebb scored the Pirates’ first goal with the winner coming from 47 year-old Chris Jones playing his first game in 15 years.
Dittisham United’s dismal start to the season is over following a 5-4 home win over Watcombe Wanderers Reserves. Sam Davies scored twice for the Plums and there were contributions from Ben Field, Liam Houlahan and Dean Nettleton. Toby Woodmore doubled up for Watcombe with Jamie Carter and Harry Lee also finding the net.
Dartmouth AFC Reserves and Paignton Villa Reserves also picked up their first wins of the season. Darts put two past Barton Athletic Reserves with no reply, Facal Benaziza and Josh Bruckner with their goals. An eventful game at Moor Road saw Villa win 4-3 against Ipplepen Athletic Reserves, George Jones with a brace and Jordan Bushell and Danny Powell making up the difference.
Division Three leaders Brixham Town won their first away game of the campaign with Josh Piper, Macauley Dallow and Stuart Pointon on target in a 3-0 win at Broadhempston United. Matt Elmore sank a hat-trick for second placed Watts Blake Bearne Reserves as they beat Chudleigh Athletic Thirds 6-3 at Abbrook Park. Teign Village complete the top three after their 3-1 away victory against Newton Abbot ’66 Reserves.
Division Four produced plenty of goals with 57 scored in just six matches. South Brent and Waldon Athletic Reserves are first and second respectively and both held on to their 100% records with big wins. Doubles from Nathan Cole, Jamie Soper and Nathan Lakey helped South Brent to a 6-0 triumph at home to Barton Athletic Thirds. Meanwhile, Shane Essam scored four times and Charlie Clarke and Terry Hunter doubled up as Waldon hammered Discoveries Devon 10-0. Alastair Chuchuck and Bradley Rooney dispatched nine between them as third-placed Bovey Tracey Reserves demolished Watcombe Wanderers Thirds 11-0. Babbacombe Corinthians Reserves also scored 11 as they won away at Ipplepen Athletic Thirds.
