Brixham AFC Reserves are into the last 16 of the Devon Premier Cup following victory over Kentisbeare last Saturday. They will be joined by fellow TCS SDFL Premier Division side Buckfastleigh Rangers who enjoyed a fantastic victory over DFL outfit Budleigh Salterton.

Devon and Exeter League Premier Division outfit Kentisbeare have yet to be beaten on home turf in their league campaign but Brixham arrived at Rectory Park with an unblemished record on their travels. Doubles from Dom Aplin and Mark Griffiths and further goals from Joshua Cawsey and Alex Harding saw the Fishermen book their place in the fourth round with a 6-3 win, Rhys Cruse, George Fawell and Lee Riggs on target for the hosts.

Steven Sutton put away a hat-trick and Lewis Cox came off the bench to score a worldie with his first touch as Rangers saw off the challenge of the Robins at the Duckspond, 4-2 the final result.

Both sides will now be aiming to become the first SDFL sides to make the quarter finals of the competition since East Allington United in the 2016/17 season.

East Allington moved up to third in the Premier Division (behind Buckfastleigh and Brixham) with a 2-1 win at Osborne Park. New signing from Meadowbrook, Ben Bowhay, struck the Pirates’ opener but Newton Abbot ’66 scored an equaliser before half-time, Darren Fisher finding the net. Finley Bullen scored the decider as East Allington racked up four wins in a row – all away from home!

Alex Henniker scored twice for Ivybridge Town Reserves as they won 3-1 at Elburton Villa Reserves. Sam Stevens also found the net for the Ivies before Cody Jones pulled one back for the hosts.

Lee Morgan scored a hat-trick for Salcombe Town as the Crabs put lowly Barton Athletic to the sword. Barton are yet to register a point and lost out 9-2 on Saturday with Charlie Barnes and substitute Joshua Harris both scoring twice for Salcombe and John Barrow and Ashley Yeoman completing the rout.

The other Premier Division game was a 2-2 draw between Meadowbrook Athletic and The Windmill. Thomas Comyn and sub Liam Collings notched for Brook with Carlton Allen getting both of the visitors’ goals.

There were only two games in Division One. Waldon Athletic missed out on the chance to go top as they were narrowly beaten 2-1 away at Paignton Saints Reserves. Jake Powell and Ben Hamilton-Hill found the net for Saints with Oliver Moxham scoring for the Clarets.

Mark McGregor’s 70th minute equaliser from Sam Passmore’s first half opener looked to have earned Upton Athletic their first point of the season. But David Hatch’s injury time header from Hadyn Sibley’s cross saw Harbertonford grab the points for their second away win on the bounce.

Leaders Kingsteignton Athletic are through to the last 16 of the Devon Senior Cup after a 2-0 home win over Bow AAC. Chudleigh Athletic Reserves join the Rams in the hat after their 3-2 triumph at Winkleigh Reserves but Beesands Rovers bowed out on penalties to Torrington Reserves following a 2-2 draw.

Ilsington Villa’s Senior Cup game against Upottery also went to penalty kicks. Three times Villa had to come back in normal time, Dan Langford, George Harris and Tom Smith with the strikes. Harris clinched Villa’s place in the fourth round with the decisive spot-kick in a 4-3 shoot-out victory. Fellow Division Two sides Babbacombe Corinthians and East Allington United Reserves were knocked out, Corries losing 4-3 at Shebbear United and the Pirates beaten 3-0 at home to Alphington Reserves.

In Division Two, Ipplepen Athletic Reserves won 5-4 at home to Newton Abbot Spurs Thirds to move into the top six. Paignton Villa Reserves picked up a valuable point at home to Newton Rovers. Joe Windsor scored twice for Villa and was joined on the score-sheet by Ciaran Farley. Nigel Vass doubled up for Rovers with Owen Clausen their other scorer in a 3-3 draw.

Barton Athletic Reserves won 2-1 at home to Dartmouth AFC Reserves, bringing their run of three heavy defeats to an end.

Brixham Town are back on top in Division Three after a comfortable 7-0 home win over Bishopsteignton United. Stuart Pointon scored twice for Town with the other goals supplied by Jack Turak, Jamie Warran, Lewis Booth and subs Dalton and Seve Sanders.

Liverton United Reserves enjoyed back to back wins as they defeated Chudleigh Athletic Thirds 6-3 away. Nicholas Rushe managed a hat-trick and there were further goals from Joseph Brittain, Callum Hale and Joshua Passmore-Tarpey. Chudleigh’s goals came from Tyler Brown, Jack Salmons and Christian Williams. Liverton ended the game a man light after Tyler Tubridy was sent off.

South Brent’s 100% record is gone after they lost out 4-1 at leaders Bovey Tracey Reserves in Division Four, Alistair Chuchuck with a hat-trick. Watcombe Wanderers Thirds, Babbacombe Corinthians Reserves and Brixham Town Reserves all picked up wins.

Four SDFL sides are through to the next round of the Devon Intermediate Cup. Galmpton United Reserves cruised to a 4-0 win over Sandymere Blues, Teign Village ousted AFC Exe 2-1, Kingsteignton Athletic Reserves sneaked through 4-3 against Uplyme and Waldon Athletic Reserves won 6-2 at Devon Yeoman Reserves.

The last of the Premier Division’s unbeaten records in the TCS SDFL fell at the weekend as Brixham AFC Reserves and Watts Blake Bearne were both defeated.

Elburton Villa Reserves surged into a four goal lead at Wall Park with Bayley Williams giving them the lead after five minutes. Billy Tedder then got on the end of a long ball to slot home Villa’s second before setting up Williams for his second, a curled shot into the top corner. Scott Allen made it four with a tap in as Brixham’s goalkeeper was stranded.

With 25 minutes to go, the Fishermen mustered a comeback which was so effective it nearly earned them a point. Alex Harding, Chris Mitchell and Mark Griffiths all found the net to leave Villa happy to hear the full-time whistle.

Buckfastleigh Rangers took their opportunity to move back to the top of the division with a mammoth 16-1 victory at Barton Athletic. It was Tom Moody’s turn to rack up the goals this week with five strikes, Ryan Lucassi and Steven Sutton close behind with hat-tricks. Jordan Jones contributed two goals with the remainder scored by Russell Jones, Joshua Norrie and substitute Charlie Morgan.

Newton Abbot ’66 climbed into the top six with a 3-2 home win over third-placed Watts Blake Bearne. The Sixes were trailing 2-0 but turned it around to claim their third win of the season.

East Allington unleashed Si Hannaford and Andy Davis at Ivybridge Town Reserves as the Pirates carved out a 6-3 victory. Hannaford put away a hat-trick with Finley Bullen scoring twice and Aidan Corcoran also on target.

Salcombe Town bounced back from their first loss of the campaign to win 5-0 at home to Meadowbrook Athletic. Ashley Yeoman was another of the division’s hat-trick heroes while Lee Morgan scored twice.

The Windmill posted back to back wins for the first time this season, coming from a goal down at half-time to beat Galmpton United 3-2 away. Carlton Allen doubled up for the visitors with Andrew Crowmac their other goalscorer. Rob Bowker and sub Callum Nightingale found the net for the Greens.

A top against bottom clash at Broadpark saw Division One leaders Kingsteignton Athletic extend their unbeaten start to the season at the expense of Upton Athletic. The Rams played some attractive football against a spirited Upton side that put up a good fight but couldn’t quite match their hosts for quality. Aaron Paget was in lethal form but his first goal, after 11 minutes, was a simple tap in following a low cross from the left. An individual goal four minutes later saw Paget and Kingsteignton double their advantage. Upton could have pulled one back in the 24th minute but the home goalkeeper pulled off a fine reaction save. Kingsteignton then almost extended their lead but an impressive looking headed goal was ruled out for offside. Five minutes later it was three though, Tom Reeves driving home from the edge of the box after good approach play from Louis Dickinson.

The second half started with the home side on the front foot although Charlie Cuss did remind the defence they still had work to do after his header went narrowly over for Upton. Reeves nudged a low Paget cross just past the post and Chris Barnett curled a vicious shot against the post before Paget wrapped up his hat-trick with a glancing header on 67 minutes. Dickinson then made it five, finding the right-hand corner of the net with a low, hard shot. Upton then suffered another blow when Steve Northcott had to leave the field of play with an injury following a crunching tackle. Having used both subs, Upton had to play the remaining minutes with ten men. No surprise then when Paget launched a rocket into the top corner for his fourth of the afternoon, securing a

6-0 victory for Kingsteignton.

Waldon Athletic picked up consecutive away wins at Buckfastleigh Rangers Reserves. Two goals apiece from Nathan Bridger and Oliver Moxham had the Clarets 4-1 up at the break, Glen Palmer with Rangers’ strike. The second half was relatively quiet but Ajay Tehrani added a fifth for Waldon in the final minute.

Damien Francis-Furnivall scored a brace for Ashburton as they won 3-0 at Beesands Rovers. Billy Ashton also found the net for the Ashes who complete the top three.

It’s been an up and down season for Chudleigh Athletic Reserves so far. Last Saturday was one of their better afternoons as Jordan Armstrong, Henry Buckpitt and Jack Morrison scored in a 3-2 home victory over winless Paignton Villa. Graham Mercieca notched his fourth goal for Villa and was joined on the score-sheet by Jordan Hayman.

Harbertonford enjoyed their first win of the campaign away at Kingskerswell and Chelston. David Hatch, Jordan Baggott and Sam Passmore hit the back of the net for Ford with sub Charles Thomas getting one for the hosts.

Division Two leaders Ilsington Villa scored seven times for their seventh win of the season, Dan Langford adding another four to his tally. Jack Langford, Matt Warman and Michael Tapp also scored in a 7-2 triumph at Newton Abbot Spurs Thirds.

Joshua Easterbrook managed two for Babbacombe Corinthians at Paignton Villa Reserves as Corries won 4-2 to close the gap on second-placed Torquay Town who were without a game.

Goals from Peter Robinson and substitute Samuel Healey as Stoke Gabriel and Torbay Police got back to winning ways with a 2-1 win at Dartmouth AFC Reserves. It finished all square between East Allington United Reserves and Ipplepen Athletic Reserves with a goal apiece at Poole Lane.

Imad Belguerrab elebrated a hat-trick for Barton Athletic Reserves but it was Newton Rovers who collected the points with a 9-3 victory at Bakers Park, Nigel Vass also scoring three.

In Division Three, a hat-trick from Ben Drinkwater helped Watts Blake Bearne Reserves to a 5-1 win at Totnes and Dartington Reserves. WBB have now won all seven league games while ending Tots’ unbeaten record.

Alistair Chuchuck collected five goals as Division Four leaders Bovey Tracey Reserves hammered Brixham Town Reserves 13-1. Waldon Athletic Reserves are behind on goal difference following their 4-1 win over Kingsteington Athletic Reserves. The Clarets are yet to drop a point. Third-placed South Brent also have a 100% record but didn’t play as opponents Ipplepen Athletic Thirds have pulled out of the league.

There was one county cup game with Paignton Saints Thirds beating The Heart of Oak 4-2 in the Devon Intermediate Cup. Saints will host Park Rangers in Saturday’s Third Round tie.

Brixham AFC Reserves have taken a narrow lead at the summit of the TCS SDFL Premier Division as they scored three without reply at fellow Torbay side Barton Athletic.

Alex Harding found the net again and was joined on the score-sheet by Mark Griffiths and Lloyd Tucker as the Fishermen completed a back-to-back double over their Torbay rivals.

Second-placed Buckfastleigh Rangers moved to the top of the division’s goal scoring charts with a resounding 6-1 home win over Galmpton United while Ryan Lucassi is now the Premier Division’s leading goalscorer after his hat-trick in that game. Brandon Jones, Charlie Morgan and substitute Tom Moody also found the net for Rangers.

Watts Blake Bearne complete the top three and remain unbeaten following a 2-2 draw at home to Elburton Villa Reserves.

Salcombe Town felt they deserved more from their game against East Allington United as they lost for the first time this season. Goals from Ashley Yeoman and Jake Favis weren’t quite enough to get the Crabs a point with Josef Sita’s goal clinching the game following strikes from Dan Bowles and Matt Bodman.

Meadowbrook Athletic are making up for lost time with Charlie Johansen scoring five times in a 7-3 home victory over Ivybridge Town reserves. Thomas Comyn and sub Liam Collings also found the net for Brook while Alex Henniker put away two for the Ivies.

Carlton Allen scored a hat-trick at Osborne Park as The Windmill achieved their first league win of the season at the fifth time of asking. Andrew Crowmac scored twice and Ashley Walker added his name to the score-sheet as the Plymouth side beat Newton Abbot ’66 6-0.

It was a day for the travellers in Division One as all bar one game ended in an away victory, the other finishing all square.

Kingsteignton Athletic lead the division by a single point following their 7-2 triumph at Paignton Villa. Aaron Paget scored four for the Rams with Tom Reeves managing a brace and Nathan Isaac also on target; Graham Mercieca scored both goals for Villa.

Waldon Athletic are in second spot. Josh Clarke and Callum Crews helped the Clarets to a 2-0 lead at Harbertonford with Daniel Hughes getting Ford a goal back before the break. Substitute Jordan Baggott dispatched a penalty to level the scores but two goals from Joseph McFarlane and another from Ajay Tehrani secured Waldon a 5-2 victory.

Callum Noyce banged in four goals for third-placed Ashburton as they returned from Upton Athletic with the points. Tom Arnold also managed a hat-trick and Damien Francis-Furnivall added a goal as the Ashes scored eight with no reply. Meanwhile, Jake Powell and Ben Hamilton-Hill scored for unbeaten Paignton Saints in their 2-0 win at Chudleigh Athletic Reserves.

Elsewhere Kingskerswell and Chelston fought out a 1-1 draw with Buckfastleigh Rangers Reserves. There was also some sad news as Abbotskerswell informed the league that they would have to withdraw their team from the competition.

Dan Langford reached 24 league goals for the season with a hat-trick for Division Two leaders Ilsington Villa in their 8-0 thrashing of Paignton Villa Reserves. But Langford was not the game’s top goalscorer with Matt Warman putting away four goals. Jamie Beer also found the net.

Simon Ross doubled up for Torquay Town and there were goals from Jamie Chamberlain and Danny Rushe as unbeaten Town won 4-1 away at Dartmouth AFC Reserves to stay second. Josh Bruckner scored for Darts.

Ryan Mellish scored twice for Babbacombe Corinthians in their 4-0 home win over Stoke Gabriel and Torbay Police Development. Scott Hele and sub Jack Wilkinson also hit the back of the net for Corries.

With six points deducted, Dittisham United are bottom of the division despite wallopping Barton Athletic Reserves 16-2! Jacob Lloyd-Mullen claimed seven for himself to put him second in the division’s goal scoring table. Stephen Rowdon scored a hat-trick and there were doubles for Jonathan Beardsmore and Joe Doyle. Christopher Beardsmore and Christopher Fisher also netted for the Plums.

In Division Three, Matt Elmore and Samuel Pearce scored as Watts Blake Bearne Reserves preserved their 100% record away at Galmpton United Reserves, Charlie Rowe with Galmpton’s effort.

Shane Pike and Josh Piper each celebrated hat-tricks as Brixham Town cruised to an 11-0 win over Paignton Saints Thirds. Brendan Boddy scored twice and there were further goals from George Meredith, Jack Turak and sub Harry Chastney. A Keran Fletcher hat-trick helped third-placed Newton Abbot ’66 Reserves to a 5-3 win away at Chudleigh Athletic Thirds.

In Division Four, Alistair Chuchuck scored twice for leaders Bovey Tracey Reserves as the Moorlanders ended Ivybridge Town Development’s unbeaten start with a 4-1 victory at Erme Valley. Jamie Soper and Robert Young scored for South Brent in a 2-1 win at Ipplepen Athletic Thirds. It’s now five out of five for Brent. Waldon Athletic Reserves have also won all five of their games following their 4-2 defeat of Babbacombe Corinthians at Windmill Hill. Paul Christie was another player to score seven this weekend as his side Brixham Town Reserves coasted to a 12-4 victory at Watcombe Wanderers Thirds.

Torquay Town Reserves exited the Devon Intermediate Cup with a 5-1 home loss to the University of Exeter’s sixth team.

Brixham AFC Reserves and Watts Blake Bearne share top spot in the TCS SDFL Premier Division following home wins last Saturday.

Alex Harding ran riot for Brixham at Wall Park, scoring half of their goals in a 10-1 thrashing of Barton Athletic. Mark Griffiths put away a hat-trick and there were further goals from Lloyd Tucker and substitute Luke Ducker.

WBB and Ivybridge Town Reserves fought out a close and entertaining battle at Abbrook Park, running out 3-2 winners. Cam Gill, Jakeb Heywood-Cann and sub Tom Taylor found the net for the unbeaten Claymen.

Second half strikes from Ben Bowhay, Thomas Comyn and substitute Finn Roberts finally brought some joy to struggling Meadowbrook Athletic as they beat Galmpton United 3-0 for their first points of the campaign. The Greens have now lost two league games in a row.

The Windmill continue to struggle to reach their usual heights as they went down 5-1 to East Allington United. Fin Bullen managed four goals for the Pirates with Jim Weeks also on target; Curtis Wescott scored a consolation goal for the hosts.

Buckfastleigh Rangers will keep Brixham Reserves company in the Third Round of the Devon Premier Cup as they achieved a stunning 9-1 victory away at Devon Football League side Ipplepen Athletic. In an ironic twist, it was the reverse scoreline of the last time these sides met here in last season’s Manor Building Company Premier Division Cup. Ryan Lucassi scored four times for Rangers and Tom Moody came off the bench to grab a brace. Jordan Jones, Charlie Morgan and Joshua Zimmerman also scored.

Rangers will host Budleigh Salterton in the next round with Brixham away at Kentisbeare.

Seven South Devon League clubs progressed into the Third Round of the Devon Senior Cup.

First through were Chudleigh Athletic Reserves who dispatched Cullompton Rangers Reserves on the Friday evening. Jordan Armstrong and sub Bradley Yarnall struck for the visitors who won 2-0.

Kingsteignton Athletic had to survive a late scare at Broadpark to secure their place in the hat. The Rams were good value for a 4-1 second half lead when a combination of sloppy defending and precise finishing saw visiting Hatherleigh Town AFC score two late goals before bowing out.

It was also 4-3 at Kingskerswell Playing Fields as the home side knocked out Braunton Thirds courtesy of goals from Ryan Fox, Greg McPherson and sub James Horrocks.

Louis Brace celebrated a hat-trick away at Honiton Town Reserves as Beesands Rovers triumphed 7-2. Jack Eades scored twice and there were further goals from Jed Tucker and Jamie Watts.

There was just the one goal for Dan Langford this week as Ilsington Villa won 3-1 away at Tedburn St Mary. Matthew Teague and Matthew Warman joined Langford on the score-sheet.

After a goalless first half, Dan Bastin, Finn Bullingham, Rob Hutchings and Lee Prestage each scored for East Allington United Reserves as they defeated Feniton Reserves 4-2.

Babbacombe Corinthians ousted Devon Yeoman on penalties at Hamlin Lane following a 1-1 draw which saw goalscorer Jordan Charlesworth sent off.

Last year’s Devon Intermediate Cup runners-up Brixham Town are out, losing 2-0 at home to fellow SDFL side Waldon Athletic Reserves.

In Division One, Callum Noyce scored a hat-trick for Ashburton but a double from Cameron Jones and a single from Jamie Hodge earned Paignton Saints Reserves a point at Chuley Road. Saints go top on goal difference.

Upton Athletic and Abbotskerswell were the only teams in the division without a point going into their match at Armada Park. Goals from Milan Babb, Marc McGregor and Jack Rendle ended Upton’s three game losing streak to leave Abbots rock bottom.

Penalty Drama as Brixham Knock Sixes out of Premier Cup

Last Saturday was Devon Premier Cup day for the top tier teams in the TCS South Devon Football League. But it was a day to forget for most of them with all bar one eliminated.

The exception was Brixham AFC Reserves as they narrowly ousted fellow SDFL side Newton Abbot ’66 to take the league’s one guaranteed Third Round spot. Billy Snell scored twice for the Sixes and Cory Brennan and Joe Clark-Farley also scored. But a double from Alex Harding and goals from Dom Aplin and Chris Mitchell saw the sides locked together at four apiece. The match went to penalties with the Fishermen winning 5-4.

Elsewhere, East Allington United crashed out 8-0 at the hands of holders Mount Gould who are looking to win the trophy for the third year in a row. Christopher Wright led the goalscoring with a brace.

Barton Athletic faced a tough trip away to Devon Football League outfit Exwick Villa and lost out 7-1, Samuel Johnson and Nathan May scoring twice each for the hosts.

Elburton Villa Reserves welcomed DFL side Bere Alston United to Haye Road and were beaten 6-2 thanks partly to a double from substitute Daniel Follett. Bayley Williams continued his goal-scoring run for Villa with Billy Howells getting their other goal.

Meadowbrook Athletic went out of the competition by the same scoreline. Ben Bowhay and Daniel Lofts scored for Brook but Mark Tucker was on fire for hosts Lapford, scoring a hat-trick.

Craig Sandle also managed a treble for North Devon Football League leaders Boca Seniors as they dispatched The Windmill FC, 6-0 the final score.

Watts Blake Bearne fared little better against Plymouth Hope, going down 5-1 at Abbrook Park, Billy Clinch with their effort.

Ivybridge Town Reserves can hold their heads up high after a respectable 2-0 loss against DFL side Alphington.

Buckfastleigh Rangers and Salcombe Town could yet keep Brixham company in the Third Round if they win their ties on the weekend. They face Ipplepen Athletic and Hartland Clovelly respectively.

In Division One, a point was enough for Kingsteignton Athletic to go top. Sam Barnes and Jack Smith found the net for the Rams with Ashley Grimes and sub Miguel Antonio Santos Alves earning visiting Kingskerswell and Chelston a share of the spoils.

Chudleigh Athletic Reserves join the leading peloton, inflicting a first defeat of the season on Waldon Athletic. Gavin Hammon and Jack Morrison celebrated goals for Chudleigh with Josh Clarke on target for the Clarets. Buckfastleigh Rangers Reserves also join the fray. They collected three easy points as Abbotskerswell were unable to raise a side.

There were sighs of relief for both Harbertonford and Paignton Villa as both sides got off the mark with a point at the Steve Jane Memorial Ground. The game finished 4-4 with eight players making the score sheet. David Hatch, Sam Johnston, Haydn Sibley and Jack Hopkins scored for Ford. Villa found the net through Danny Powell, Luke Rogers, Samuel Woodcock and Joe Windsor.

Dan Langford is now averaging more than four goals a game, the Ilsington Villa striker scoring six times in his side’s 11-0 home win over Dartmouth AFC Reserves. George Harris tucked away a brace and there were goals from Jack Langford, Michael Tapp and Andrew Westwood as the Division Two leaders made it five wins out of five.

Torquay Town and Babbacombe Corinthians also celebrated emphatic home victories, both teams winning 7-0. Jamie Chamberlain bagged a hat-trick, Kevin Orrell scored twice and there were goals from Simon Bracey and Simon Ross as unbeaten Town swept aside East Allington United Reserves.

Corries complete the top three with their win over Paignton Villa Reserves. Dean Coles and Ben Nickells managed two apiece with Callum Leeds, Curtis Marshall and Samuel Swann completing the septet.

A great performance between the sticks by Taylor Breslan helped Newton Abbot Spurs Thirds extend their unbeaten start. Spurs scored three without reply at Stoke Gabriel and Torbay Police Development with Andy Eden, Ryan Fawden and Daniel Spargo on target.

Barton Athletic Reserves collected their first points in a high-scoring encounter with Watcombe Wanderers Reserves. The Greens will feel hard done by after scoring five times but conceding six.

Teign Village gave Division Three leaders Brixham Town a run for their money but the visitors emerged with their unbeaten record intact. Stuart Pointon added another couple of goals to his Brixham tally, Seve Sanders found the net and Shane Pike came off the bench to contribute a goal. The hosts scored through Michael Turner, Matt Bojar and Thomas Beer who was also sent off after picking up two yellow cards.

Watts Blake Bearne Reserves preserved their perfect start with a 6-1 win at Bishopsteignton United. Matt Elmore put away a hat-trick, Nathan Williams doubled up and Samuel Bannister netted for the Claymen. Jake Emmerton scored Bishops’ consolation.

Christopher Streeter scored twice for Newton Abbot ’66 Reserves as they moved up to third in the table with a 3-0 victory at Paignton Saints Thirds, Alfie Manning with their other goal. Unbeaten Galmpton United Reserves enjoyed a strong second half performance as they ran out 6-2 winners over Liverton United Reserves. Harry Atkinson took centre stage with four goals for the Greens who also found the net through Tom Armstrong and Sam Massey. Vito Percinovic and Charlie Roberts were on target for Liverton.

Kingsbridge and Kellaton United have had a mixed start to the season but the South Hams side showed what they were capable of on a good day with a 6-1 triumph over Chudleigh Athletic Thirds. Guy Watson enjoyed a hat-trick, Dominic Farleigh scored twice and Matt Whitten found the net as did Christian Williams of Chudleigh.

Broadhempston United are still seeking their first point after a fifth straight loss at home to Totnes and Dartington Reserves. Sehena Coulibaly managed a goal for the Robins but Tots had scored seven by the break through Billy Bartlett, Jake Osman (2), Jordan Dowsett, Scott Troth (2) and Sam Ingham. Dowsett added another in a relatively quiet second half as the game ended 8-1.

Bovey Tracey Reserves lead the way in Division Four on goal difference. They bolstered those numbers further on Saturday with a 10-2 drubbing of Babbacombe Corinthians Reserves. Alistair Chuchuck fired home four goals for the Moorlanders, Liam Payne scored twice and Matthew Churchill, James Lockwood, Bradley Rooney and substitute Darren Siwiec each contributed goals.

Ivybridge Town Development have yet to drop a point in their inaugural season. They cruised to a 10-0 win at Ipplepen Athletic Thirds with Craig Brenton tucking away four, Lewis Dickson scoring twice and Kai Burrel, Kai Foster, Lawson Turpin and Jamie Rose adding their names to the score-sheet.

With five straight defeats, Barton Athletic Thirds prop up the league. Guney Uven scored a brace and Antony Smith found the net as Newton Rovers Reserves returned from Steps Cross with the points.

Jules Emati-Emati celebrated a hat-trick at Decoy Park as Kingsteignton Athletic Reserves picked up their first win of the season against Discoveries Devon. Oliver Teague and Ryan Warrington also scored in a 5-2 victory for the Rams.

East Allington United scored for the first time in three games but couldn’t prevent a third successive defeat as they lost out 3-2 at home to Elburton Villa Reserves. Barton Athletic and Ivybridge Town Reserves were hunting their first wins of the season at Paignton Community College. Reece Shaw produced a fantastic solo goal to give Barton the lead but it was downhill for the Blues from there. Alex Henniker equalised before Ryan McNaught put the Ivies ahead from the penalty spot. Barton heads dropped and Ivybridge went 3-1 up before half-time, McNaught with a stunning second. Ivybridge then took control of the game with McNaught adding another couple of goals and substitute Sam Stevens also with a brace. The game finished 7-1.

There’s still nothing to choose between the top teams in Division One with the top four taking maximum points from three games. There were eight goals scored at Kingskerswell Playing Fields. Alexander Easson put away a hat-trick for hosts Kingskerswell and Chelston yet still ended up on the losing side. Callum Crews scored twice and Josh Clarke and Jacob Knapman managed one apiece. The Clarets also kept a clean sheet to wrap up a fine afternoon. Also yet to drop a point are Beesands Rovers although this week’s three points were collected as a result of Upton Athletic being unable to fulfil the fixture.

Few would have predicted the final score line at Chuley Road as Ashburton and Harbertonford fought out a goalless half. The Ashes broke the deadlock after the break but Zach McLean levelled for Fords. Ashburton edged ahead again but David Hatch once again equalised for the visitors. The home side finally secured the points with three goals in a 20 minute spell to run out 5-2 winners.

Jack Morrison was in prolific mood at Abbots Park, scoring six times in a 10-0 triumph for Chudleigh Athletic Reserves. Brad Yarnall scored twice and Byron Hawkins and Matthew Williams completed the rout.

East Allington United Reserves sent third placed Babbacombe Corinthians to their second loss in a row with a 2-1 triumph at Windmill Hill. Brixham AFC Reserves picked up an impressive three points in their home game against The Windmill FC. With their first team having received a cup bye, the Fishermen were able to field a strong side but it took until early in the second half for them to get their noses in front with a header from a corner. But Brixham quickly retook the lead and battled doggedly before sealing the win with a late third. On the score-sheet for the hosts were Joshua Cawsey, Kieran Parkin and Reece Somers.

Newton Abbot ’66 bounced back from their narrow loss at Elburton Villa Reserves the previous week to beat Ivybridge Town Reserves 6-2 at Osborne Park. Villa were unable to build on their victory as they lost out 2-1 at Galmpton United. The Greens, starting their first league game of the campaign, went ahead in a first half of few chances when Craig White fired a Max Prestwood cross into the roof of the net after 21 minutes. Sam Lang had the best of the Elburton efforts with a couple of chances ten minutes later but was unable to beat the Galmpton defence. Dave Worthington slotted home a second after the break, giving Galmpton a little room to breathe but Bayley Williams finished off a good attacking spell by the visitors to ensure Galmpton were made to work hard for their win.

Due to Devon FA cup action, there was only one Division One game, between Harbertonford and Chudleigh Athletic Reserves, two teams looking to make up for disappointing starts. Despite taking the lead through Jack Hopkins, Harbertonford conceded an own goal and then went behind after the break. Dave Hatch briefly brought the home side level but Athletic scored three more, including a penalty to run out 5-2 victors, Jordan Armstrong, Jack Salmons, Gavin Hammon and Andrew Snell with their goals.

With Ilsington Villa’s cup opponents pulling out, there was an opportunity to follow up on their opening day win in Division Two. There were also plenty of goals across the grounds in Division Four. Bovey Tracey Reserves are flying at the moment following consecutive 8-0 wins. Kingsteignton Athletic Reserves were the victims this week (although they do have the consolation of a free ride to Round Two of the county cup due to their opponents pulling out). Barton Athletic Thirds, Bovey’s opponents the previous week, shipped another five at home to Waldon Athletic Reserves who also collected a clean sheet. Nathan Cole scored twice for South Brent as they made it two wins from two by beating Brixham Town Reserves 4-1. James Kervella and Jamie Soper also found the net for Brent with Liam Halliday scoring for Town.

There was a mixed bag of results in the Devon Senior Cup with Beesands Rovers, Ilsington Villa, Kingsteignton Athletic, Newton Rovers and Buckfastleigh Rangers Reserves making it into the Second Round. The pick of the games was at Beesands where the Bees came back from two down against Torridgeside Reserves to win 7-4, Jack Eades with a phenomenal five goals and Louis Brace and Josh Jewell with a goal apiece. Kingsteignton won 3-1 away at South Zeal United after extra-time, after initially falling behind, while Newton Rovers beat fellow SDFL outfit Abbotskerswell 2-1 at Bakers Park. Ilsington and Buckfastleigh went through by default as their opponents, Bradninch and Upton Athletic respectively, couldn’t raise sides.

Elsewhere, Ashburton were roundly beaten 7-1 at Alphington Reserves while Dartmouth AFC Reserves suffered a whopping 15-1 loss at former SDFL Premier side Plympton Athletic Reserves. Upottery edged out Paignton Saints Reserves 2-1, Cody Tratt-Skinner with both of the hosts’ goals, while Newton Abbot Spurs Thirds held Exmouth Spartans to a 2-2 draw before bowing out 4-3 on penalties.

The SDFL had a similar success rate in the Devon Intermediate Cup. Galmpton United Reserves, Ivybridge Town Development, Kingsteignton Athletic Reserves, Liverton United Reserves, Teign Village and Totnes and Dartington Reserves are all in the hat with Teign Village enjoying an emphatic 9-1 victory at The Priory. Ivybridge Development started their first ever campaign in style, beating Kenn Valley United 5-1, Lewis Dickson with four of their goals and Kai Burrel with the other. Galmpton won 5-2 away at Lynton. It was closer at Halford where Liverton narrowly ousted Woolsery 3-2. Kingsteignton and Totnes were awarded home walkovers against Hawkchurch and Bradworthy Reserves respectively.

Watts Blake Bearne Reserves scored three at home to Bickleigh but conceded five while Sandford Reserves put away two without reply at home to Bishopsteignton United. Cranbrook United had to score six times to finally end the challenge of Discoveries Devon in an 11 goal thriller at Decoy Park. In contrast, the one goal was enough for Bow AAC at Newton Rovers Reserves. It was closer still at Windmill Hill where eight goals couldn’t separate Babbacombe Corinthians Reserves and Exmouth Rovers Reserves. Exmouth finally made it through with a 4-2 triumph on penalties. Ipplepen Athletic Thirds were unable to raise a side to face the intriguingly named Heart of Oak while Abbotskerswell Reserves (who have now disbanded and re-entered the league as Watcombe Wanderers Thirds) also forfeited their cup tie to Uplyme.

Rangers followed up last week’s opening victory at Ivybridge Town Reserves with a 3-0 triumph away at Meadowbrook Athletic. Elburton Villa Reserves are the only other Premier side to celebrate a win so far as they narrowly defeated visiting Newton Abbot ’66 3-2 at Haye Road. Two goals from Bayley Williams looked to have Villa comfortably on course for three points. But the Sixes fought back and managed to level the game before Williams completed his hat-trick.

Brixham AFC Reserves took the lead twice against Watts Blake Bearne at Wall Park, Thomas Burt and Peter Mwaro with the goals. But WBB found a last minute equaliser to deny the hosts an opening day win.

Salcombe Town won their opening Devon Premier Cup match after an exciting 3-3 draw with Lakeside Athletic of the Devon Football League. Goals from Ash Yeoman, Ben Tapper and Charlie Barnes had put the Crabs 3-1 up, Brandon Jefferis with the home side’s strike. But Jack Presland’s double took the game to penalties and Salcombe finally made it through 3-1.

Teague Shines as Pirates Pull off Charity Win

Shootout hero Richard Teague celebrates with his team mates following East Allington’s 6-5 sudden death penaltis win over Meadowbrook. ©MiraclePR.com

There was late penalty drama at Totnes and Dartington’s Foxhole Ground last Friday night as East Allington United clinched the TCS South Devon Football League Charity Shield from South Hams neighbours Meadowbrook Athletic.

The game went down to the wire with the Pirates winning 6-5 on sudden death penalties following a goalless 90 minutes. The hero of the night was veteran East Allington goalkeeper Richard Teague who made a surprise start and ended up scoring in the shootout before saving the decisive penalty.

Wearing a fluorescent yellow jersey, Teague foreshadowed the role he was going to play in the game. He was also the brightest part of a dull first half with most chances coming from corners. Meadowbrook comfortably won the corner count but failed to deliver much to trouble Teague and captain Dan Hurrell who competently dealt with anything that resembled a chance. The only other player who looked likely to do any damage was Brook’s Ben Bowhay. He had the best effort of the half, forcing Teague into a smart save with a shot from the edge of the area.

After the break it was a different story with East Allington orchestrating the better chances, including hitting the crossbar, in a much more entertaining half. Meadowbrook did look dangerous on the counter though, bolstered as they were by the introduction of experienced journeyman Luke Durham.

The Pirates had their best chance to go in front on 71 minutes when Finley Bullen was felled in the box. Bullen took the penalty himself but Dave Carroll, the experienced former Totnes and Dartington goalkeeper, beat his effort away and Fin Watson was wide with the follow up. With seven minutes remaining there was a huge shout from East Allington when Carroll leapt to claim the ball, fell backwards and was forced to hurl the ball away from his goal. The Pirates were convinced the ball had crossed the line but with no goal line technology to fall back on, the referee waved away the goal appeals. And while there was no VAR to consult either, the East Allington bench were eager for their club photographer to review her video footage!

With light fading, penalties followed straight after the 90 minutes were up. If Bullen was nervous about taking the first spot kick, it didn’t show as he confidently dispatched his shot past Carroll to open the scoring. Bowhay hit an equally confident shot to get Brook off the mark.

Goalkeepers taking penalties are now a common sight in football matches but it is still rare to have both ‘keepers trading spot kicks. At three apiece, up stepped Teague for East Allington and despite Carroll getting both hands to the ball, the power of the shot beat him. Carroll is no stranger to penalty taking himself but when the roles were reversed, he saw his shot beaten away by his opposite number. However, Teague had moved off his line and Carroll made certain to level the scores again after the re-take.

After Durham tucked away Brook’s fifth penalty it was down to sudden death. East Allington scored before Teague pulled off a great save to round off the match – possibly his last for the club – in perfect fashion.

“The first half was a bit scrappy in places, I think we were a bit slow out of the gates,” said East Allington manager Luke Harvey. “Second half, I said we just needed to slow the tempo down, get hold of the ball and start playing it around. When we started doing that we took control of the game.

“Our second half performance was brilliant and they fully deserved to win. I think we should have finished it off in the 90 minutes but there you go, we didn’t.

“I never had a doubt about Fin. Even when he’s missed one, he’s one of those strikers where it’s like water off a duck’s back. He scores us 30 goals a season so you never have to worry about that. He’s got guts and to stand up and take the first penalty, I’m proud of him for that.

“I didn’t know (Richard Teague) was going to play until a couple of days ago. I thought it was going to be tight and when he put himself forward I thought to myself that, if it goes to penalties, I’m going to need a goalkeeper with that kind of experience.

“He’s been a great servant to the club and it’s just fitting that, with this potentially being his last game, he’s come away with some silverware’.

There was also one game played the following day with Tom Weymouth scoring twice for Buckfastleigh Rangers in their opening TCS South Devon Football League Premier Division game away at Ivybridge Town Reserves. Josh Zimmerman also scored for Rangers in a 3-1 victory.

The rest of the league gets underway this Saturday.
