Going for a few days away in Wales was probably not the most ideal way to start the new football season but never mind…I’ll do my best to round up what’s been happening with Clubnets.
The first #yellowday of 2019/20
First of all, it’s great to see that Torquay United and Buckland Athletic both managed wins today. The Gulls soared into a 2-0 lead at Dover Athletic before an Asa Hall handball with two minutes to go saw the midfielder dismissed and the home side put away a penalty. Fortunately, the Yellows held on for a morale-boosting three points – a first win in four.
There was no such drama at Homers Heath where Buckland defeated Wellington 2-0 with goals from Richard Groves and Ryan Bush. Bucks were also bouncing back from disappointment following their league loss at home to Westbury and narrow FA Cup exit at the hands of Plymouth Parkway (there’s a video on the match report page of that game for any Buckland masochists out there).
I quite like the idea of bagging the #yellowday hashtag for every time the lads achieve the South Devon double – what do you think?
Explosion of new Clubnets websites
Since the end of the last football season, we have ballooned from three sites to seven with three new club websites and, of course, the website for the all new Devon Football League.
We are really proud and excited to have also launched the websites for Peninsula East side Stoke Gabriel F.C., DFL North & East side Heavitree United and Torbay Amateur Boxing Club. Click the links on the Clubnets home page to visit the sites.
We are hoping to announce the launch of a further two club websites over the next few weeks.
A change of name and manager for Buckland women
Buckland Ladies have become Buckland Women FC as new manager Vanessa Casey prepares to lead her side into battle against Maidenhead tomorrow. Buckland WFC finished an impressive third in their first season in the FA Women National League and we will be remotely cheering them on tomorrow afternoon in their season opener.
If you are a business still looking to sponsor a football team this season, Buckland WFC would love to hear from you. The link to the Buckland Ladies – sorry – Women’s website is on the Clubnets home page.
On the subject of sponsorship, we are still on the hunt for a season sponsor so please call 07762906818 or email info@clubnets.co.uk if you are interested in reaching a swathe of Devon that now reaches from Plymouth to Exeter and beyond.
Player Tackles Weight
Finally, I will be taking part in my first session of Player Tackles Weight tomorrow. My goal is to lose eight pounds (I’m currently 11 stone 8 pounds) over the 12 week programme. I’ve already missed the first week so will be playing catch-up. Yes, that break in Wales was definitely not well-timed!
If you are a man or woman interested in losing weight but lacking the motivation, Sports & Fitness 4U run PTW programmes based around football and netball. Click the link to contact them.
Enjoy the rest of your Saturday evening!
