Their hard work over the pre-season paid off for Buckland Athletic Under 12 Girls as Mark Davenport’s side stormed to an incredible 18-0 win away at Cullompton Rangers in their opening game of the season last Sunday.
Buckland were quickly on to the front foot with Codi Dicken showing off her composure and finishing abilities to claim an early hat-trick. Buckland then took complete control of the game, Ava Mitchell, Mia Davenport and Codi scoring another two apiece with Robyn Mitchell also finding the net before the break.
Cullompton improved in the second half with Courtney Crocombe, a virtual spectator in the first half, called into action on a number of occasions and forced to tip a corner over her crossbar. But at the other end, the Yellows kept on playing productive passing football and creating chances. Codi scored twice more to take her tally to seven before Erica Carey finished neatly to put Buckland 13-0 up. Ava and Mia then completed their hat-tricks and there was still time for Erica, Ava and Mia to score again before the end.
Every one of the girls played their full part in a memorable afternoon. Courtney Horne was the provider on more than one occasion and almost found the net herself while captain Maisy Green and fellow defenders Emily Tucker and Nina Hocking kept things nice and tight at the back.
