Report
Buckland Athletic and Newton Fire fought out a 0-0 draw in a competitive game at Homers Heath.
Buckland needed to win this game to keep the league title in their own hands but Newton Fire’s potent strike force meant that defence was the order of the day. Great performances at the back – particularly from defender Maisie Green and goalkeeper Courtney Crocombe – successfully kept the visitors at bay but a lack of firepower up front meant that the Yellows couldn’t capitalise on their chances. Fire came closest to winning the game when former Buckland player Codi Dicken hit the crossbar but the game ended goalless and the points deservedly shared.
Buckland now have to win their remaining three league games and hope Culm Sampford take points off title rivals Crediton if they are to win the league. Next up though is a League Cup semi-final at home to Cullompton Rangers.
