Report
Buckland Athletic fell to their first defeat of the season with a decent Bideford side starting and finishing strongly to book their place in the semi-finals of the County Cup.
From the kick-off, Buckland looked nervous and unable to retain possession. Codi Dicken dropped into midfield to strengthen the defence but this left only one up front and Buckland couldn’t get any attacks going. The relentless pressure from the visitors was too much and Bideford went into the break deservedly 3-0 to the good.
With Bideford taking their foot off the accelerator a bit and Buckland pushing Codi up front, the Yellows suddenly posed a threat early in the second half. Codi pulled several Bideford players into the corner before pulling the ball back into space, leaving Mia Davenport with an open goal. With their tails up, Codi tried the same again with identical results apart from this time it was Courtney Horne finding the net.
Alas for Buckland, the quick double proved to be a false dawn as Bideford upped their game to devastating effect. Two long-range efforts left Courtney Crocombe with no chance while three mistakes at the back were ruthlessly punished by the team in red who ended the game as 8-2 victors.
