Poor starts and ‘almost’ recoveries are becoming standard fare for Buckland Athletic in the FA Cup as the Yellows exited the FA Cup 3-2 at home to Bodmin Town in their season opener.
Bodmin took the lead through Adam Carter who scored from a corner after 28 minutes. The Cornish side doubled up three minutes from the end of the half via a free-kick, Harry Evans with the goal. Carter’s second, after the break, looked to settle the result but Buckland’s fightback began when Lloyd Gardner opened his account for the season just after the hour mark. Cameron Kelly’s dismissal made the task ahead more difficult but when Charlie Johansen found the target the hope was restored. Adam Kelly’s dismissal in the final minutes equalised the player count but Buckland couldn’t quite do the same for the score and bowed out, Bodmin going on to meet Hengrove in the next round.
