United Gain Ground But Sherborne Slip Up – Round Up

With league leaders Marine Academy Plymouth Ladies sitting out this round of matches, it was a weekend to see if both title challengers could make up the necessary ground, using up one of their four games in hand in the South West Regional Women’s Premier League.

United’s 4-0 win over Bishop’s Lydeard at Plainmoor moved them to within eight points of the leaders with three games in hand and an almost identical goal difference.

Sherborne Town started Sunday a point behind Torquay in third as they traveled to AEK Boco Ladies but ended it three behind Torquay having played the same number of games. Immy Miller scored for Sherborne but a Jess Dobbins equaliser ensured a 1-1 draw.

Although now officially out of the title race, Forest Green Rovers Women could still have finished second, going into the weekend, and could yet have a bearing on who finishes where at both ends of the table! They hosted Poole Town Ladies for who an Emma King braced bagged all three points for the visitors. They may yet be vital points for Poole, who move six clear of Bishops Lydeard and the relegation places.

Frampton Rangers Ladies and Pucklechurch Sports Ladies have little to play for but pride in their remaining games, but are enjoying a private mid-table tussle. Sunday’s meeting at Yate Town’s ground ended. 4-1 in Fampton’s favour with two goals apiece for Mollie Bourne and Eleanor Child.

Bishops Lydeard Ladies and Ilminster Town Ladies will meet in a rare midweek fixture, on Tuesday evening.
