United’s 1-0 win over Forest Green Rovers Women was one of four fixtures in the South West Regional Women’s League. Besides Torquay’s pursuit of leaders Marine Academy Plymouth Ladies, the key game involved the two sides battling NOT to occupy the second relegation spot.
Bishop’s Lydeard Ladies, who’ve occupied second bottom for most of the campaign, finish out 24/25 with back-to-back games against winless AFC St Austell Ladies. But trailing Poole Town Ladies by six points, and with an inferior goal difference, realistically, only a win for the Somerset side, over Poole at the Dorset County Ground, would be good enough to give them a chance of staying up.
And Lydeard got the job done in style, winning 4-2, with Holly Ambler coming off the bench to score twice. It was Poole’s final game, and all they can do now is wait and see if Bishops Lydeard can hold their nerve twice against St Austell!
Elsewhere, Sherborne Town Ladies, who could still finish second, shaded a seven-goal thriller against Pucklechurch Sports Ladies.
Ilminster Town Ladies and Frampton Rangers Ladies, were just playing for late-season pride, and it was the visitors who took the points with a 2-1 win. Shannon Francis scored her 21st goal of the campaign in what was Frampton’s last game of the season.
Sherborne’s Chloe Snook continues to lead the way, with United’s Lucy Solloway in pursuit on 19.
