Next Up – Home Again After The Storm

With all of last weekend’s fixtures blown away by Storm Bert, it’s ‘as you were’ with Torquay looking to continue their unbeaten and winning runs in the South West Regional Women’s Premier League and keep the pressure on the two sides above them.

Pucklechurch Sports Ladies will provide the test this weekend. This will be the first meeting of the sides this season after the reverse fixture was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch! With the forecast more favourable and The Rec in Newton Abbott the venue, United can hopefully focus on another important three points.

Having finished sixth in the division last season, Pucklechurch are in the same spot this season, having secured ten points from their opening seven matches. They’ve only lost once in the league, and that was on the opening day of the campaign when they were mauled 7-0 by current leaders Marine Academy Plymouth Ladies.

Since then, they’ve become the division draw specialists with four to their credit, plus one more in the F.A. Cup, where they eventually lost to Yeovil Town Women on penalties.  And, they were only beaten 1-0 in the County Cup by Bristol Rovers Women a fortnight ago, which all suggests this could be one of United’s tougher assignments.

Mia Blazey and Amy Jeffries lead scoring with just three apiece which is perhaps strange given their form, and while defensively they are tight at home – they’ve conceded 11 in three away games, though bear in mind most of those came on the opening day.

Sunday’s match kicks off at 2 pm at The Rec in Newton Abbot and as always it would be great to see as many of the Yellow Army there as possible.  However, if you can’t make it to Devon F.A. headquarters, we’re pleased to say that live commentary is on-air from 1.45 pm at https://tufcwomen.mixlr.com
