Torquay look to continue their uneaten and winning runs in the South West Regional Women’s Premier League, as they host the only side to take points off them this season, AEK Boco Ladies, at Coach Road on Sunday.
United drew their opening game of the season on their visit to Bristol, twice behind then forging ahead before conceding a late penalty, as the match ended 3-3. Since then, it’s been five wins from five, scoring 31 and conceding just two, including their 5-0 road win last time out at Bishops Lydeard.
And with leaders Marine Academy Plymouth Ladies in F.A. Cup action this weekend, United could use one of their two games in hand to return to the top, If Forest Green Rovers Women fail to win.
AEK Boco starts the weekend in seventh spot, with just seven points from eight league outings. In addition to their draw against United, they’ve had impressive wins over Poole Town Ladies (7-0) and AFC St Austell Ladies (6-0), so they have some firepower. But they’ve also been beaten 4-1 by Forest Green, 4-2 by M.A.P., 7-3 by Ilminster Town Ladies, and 3-1 by Frampton Rangers Ladies.
Their last outing was a 2-1 County Cup defeat against Forest Green, so it may well depend on which of the Jekyll and Hyde sides arrives in south Devon on Sunday before we know how tough a test they pose.
What we do know is that Lucy Atkinson leads Boco’s scoring with eleven goals to her credit, one against United in the season opener, while Emily Channing-Cone and Sasha Ferris have 3 apiece.
Sunday’s match kicks off at 2 pm at Coach Road, Newton Abbot and as always it would be great to see as many of the Yellow Army there as possible. However, if you can’t make it to Devon F.A. headquarters, we’re pleased to say that live commentary is back from 1.45 pm at https://tufcwomen.mixlr.com
