As lockdown restrictions ease, but not enough for clubs to start training, Torquay United Women and Girls have set about delivering a number of webinar workshops for their under 9, 11 and 13 squads.
In partnership with Torquay United Community Sports Trust, led by Manager and Head of Girls Coaching Jamie McInnes, United have introduced the first two workshops aimed at educating the youngsters about dealing with various scenarios within the game.
Our first workshop webinar that has been delivered, was around ‘Dealing with the Highs and Lows in football’, McInnes explained, “The last couple of months have been very tough for everybody. During this time, we have been very proactive in trying to stay ‘connected’ with our players and their families. We have delivered some online fitness training and ball mastery sessions, along with a family quiz, which have been very well received. The difficulties of the current situation have highlighted the huge importance of health and wellbeing, both physical and mental. We want to do all we can to support our young players during this time, and the webinars focusing on the Psychological and Social aspects of the FA Four Corner model are designed to do this. I was very impressed with the engagement during this workshop; the girls gave some interesting insights and shared experiences, as well as posing some thought-provoking questions. As we all know, football can be a game of real highs, lows and different emotions, and we aim to create an environment where the young players can understand and feel comfortable and confident in dealing with these different scenarios”.
Our next webinar will focus around ‘Setting Goals’. “We understand all of our young players play the game for their own reasons and motivations. Be it intrinsically or extrinsically, all of the players will have their own aims and ambitions within football, both for themselves and for the team. The next workshop will aim to recognise these different motivations and support the players in setting some goals and targets for their own, and the team’s, future development” McInnes added.
