Almost Down To A Three Horse Race -Round Up

The South West Regional Women’s Premier League title, and with it promotion to the Women’s National League, now looks set to go in one of three directions, after the latest round of results.

Marine Academy Plymouth Ladies started the weekend in the top spot, with a ten-point advantage over second-placed Forest Green Rovers Women, as the pair met at Manadon. Rovers led at halftime through a Martha Campbell goal, threatening to blow the title race wide open. But Kelsey Blight scored twice and Abbie Woodward netted a third for M.A.P. all but extinguishing Forest Green’s hopes of the league crown, as they drop to fourth.

United’s 5-1 home win over Ilminster Town Ladies moved them back to second place and with the division’s most superior goal difference. They remain 11 points behind M.A.P. but with four games in hand.

Sherborne Town Ladies started the weekend fourth and are still well in contention, after a 3-0 victory at home to Bishops Lydeard Ladies, who remain in the bottom two. Immy Miller scored all three for the hosts as they climbed to third. They’re a point behind Torquay and also have the four games in hand on M.A.P.

Elsewhere, United’s next opponents, AEK Boco Ladies and Frampton Rangers Ladies played out a goalless draw

Lucy Grose was on target again for bottom side AFC St Austell Ladies at Pucklechurch Sports Ladies, as the Cornish outfit threatened to secure their first points of a tough season. But goals from Kimberley Mags and Sophie Sweet, eventually secured the points for Pucklechurch.
