Media Moments – Catch Up With The Manager

Torquay United Women FC

The latest postponement because of Storm Darragh means Torquay United have played just six South West Regional Women’s Premier League matches since the 2024-25 season began, way back at the start of September.

The weather, and an eleven-team division, meaning an effective bye-week for one team every Sunday, has led to just one competitive fixture, since United’s unlucky FA Cup defeat, at home to Bridgewater. That fixture took place on November 3rd!

Torquay’s plight isn’t helped by the lack of a permanent home venue. Devon F.A. headquarters at Coach Road in Newton Abbott is in high demand because of the synthetic, all-weather, surface.

And while Newton Abbott Spurs have been brilliant hosts for three of United’s matches so far this campaign, their grass pitch, like others, is not only subject to the weather, but also the needs of the home club and their respective teams.

So with a third postponement in as many weeks, we caught up with Torquay United Manager – Lee Mann – who expressed his clear frustrations at the lack of matches.
