Torquay United WFC First Team bounced back from the previous weekend’s FA Cup defeat with a comprehensive 12-0 victory over Bideford AFC Women in the South West Regional Women’s League Premier Division last Sunday.
A hat-trick from Ellie Bishop plus goals from Jana Richards (2), Leah Brooks (2), Danni Wyatt (2), Ocean Latto, Kate Hine and skipper Emma Hunt gave Grant Fisher’s team all three points.
“This was a great response from the squad following last weeks disappointment,” said Fisher. “We had a number of players missing this week, so those who came in did themselves proud and executed our plan perfectly, especially in the second half.”
Going into the break at 4-0, supporters might have thought that United would take their foot off the gas in the second half but a hungry Gulls side kept pressing forward and took their chances well throughout the whole 90 minutes, adding another eight goals.
The win keeps Fisher’s squad just four points off top spot in the league with a massive programme in December seeing them play all three of the teams above them. “By the scheduled Christmas break, we will have a really good idea of where this young squad is on their journey. It’s exciting times for the Women’s team,” added Assistant Manager Matt Green.
United are at home again next week (Stoke Gabriel and Torbay Police FC’s ground), against Bishops Lydeard Ladies, 2pm KO.
