Ellie Bishop and Helen Kukor found the net to give Torquay United WFC a 2-0 lead against Ilminster Town. But a spirited comeback from Town saw the spoils shared.
The Gulls were hoping to build on their opening day victory at Bishops Lydeard with a win on home soil. And after an early scare, Ilminster hitting the crossbar, Torquay took the initiative and deservedly went ahead via Ellie Bishop’s finish after Charlotte Johnson had saved a powerful shot. Dani Wyatt thought she had doubled the Gulls’ lead when she came out on top of a challenge with Johnson and slotted home only to see the flag go up for offside.
Helen Kukor picked up a half clearance and fired the ball into the back of the net for Torquay’s second, giving them a comfortable cushion but Colette Martin met a cross from the right to reduce the deficit before half time. Jodi Cornnal completed the comeback early in the second half, sending a screamer from 30 yards into the roof of Konnie Kleczkowski’s goal.
