A very successful Torbay Easter Hockey Festival concluded on Easter Monday after four days of very competitive hockey, with the level of play being judged the best for several years.
A full programme enjoyed a full array of weather, but luckily, Storm David largely stayed away from the English Riveria.
Competition for the Bill Stickells Cup continued into Monday morning, with the Midwives needing to beat the Buffaloes (pictured) by 11 clear goals. Despite winning the game by 7-2, Midwives, the 2025 winners, could only finish in third position with 35 goals. Buffaloes came out as the Cup winners with 40 goals, pushing the Esandars, on 37, into the runners-up slot. It was the Buffaloes’ seventh Cup win.
For the first time since the Fair Play Award was introduced in 2005, the Stickells Cup winners also won the latter Award, sharing it with the Oddfellows, last year’s co-winners. This was the eighth such win for the Oddfellows.
On Good Friday, the Esanders played their 400th Torbay Festival game, having first entered in 1960.
The next day, the Cleevillians and Midwives observed a minute’s silence in Memory of David Gill, a member of the Cleevillians, who had recenty died. Dave served on the Festival Committee from 1997 to 2009.
